It's a chance to test your skills while raising money for a good cause.
WOODSTOCK -- Challenge yourself while supporting a good cause.
The Iron Monkey MMA & Fitness Club in Woodstock is hosting the 2nd Annual Community Fitness Challenge for Charity Saturday, April 12th.
Part-owner, Yvonne Billone says they are raising funds for club member Angus McAlister. "This year we're trying to raise money to help out one of our members, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour just recently and the money will be going to his family and helping them through the recovery process."
Both Angus and his nine year-old son are members of Iron Monkey MMA & Fitness Club.
The participants are going to chose from one of three challenges this year:
1) 5km run
2) 5 minute kettlebell snatch set, max chin and max deadlift
3) 10 minute kettlebell longcycle set
Money raised is being directed toward the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. The foundation is made up of a dedicated team of volunteers, patients, survivors, family members, health care professionals and staff, determined to make the journey with a brain tumour one full of hope and support. They've been working collaboratively to serve the needs of those Canadians affected by all types of brain tumours since 1982.
Billone says that they had two participants sign up for all three events, which is also an option. She highlighted that the kettlebell challenge is new for these two. "That's what we like to see, somebody just going out there, stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new. No pressure."
The registration fee is $25 and the deadline is set for Wednesday, April 9th.
Billone points out that they've had great community support from local businesses to provide prizes for the participants.
