The Brant County Fire Department is kicking off their Fire Prevention Week events today with an open house at the Scotland Fire Station.
BRANT COUNTY - Members of the Brant County Fire Department are kicking off their Fire Prevention Week activities a little early.
Fire Prevention Officer Tom Waldschmidt says they will be holding an open house at the Scotland Fire Station today.
"We are doing a fire extinguisher demonstration from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be all kinds of stuff for the kids, the fire trucks will be on display and it's a great time for the family to come out."
They will also hold an open house at the St George Fire Station on Thursday October 11th from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the Paris Fire Station on Saturday October 13th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
They will be on scene at the Burford Fall Fair over the Thanksgiving long weekend as well.
Waldschmidt says they're hoping to educate the public about the importance of fire safety.
"As we all have busier and busier lives the one thing we're finding in the fire fighter service is people are starting to put fire safety at the back burner. We're seeing this a lot in emergency situations."
The theme this year is Look, Listen and Learn; look for potential hazards in your home, listen for the smoke alarm and learn two ways out of each room.
The official Fire Prevention Week will kick off on Sunday October 7th and wrap up on Saturday October 13th.
