Two downtown Woodstock businesses received damage following a Thursday night fire.
WOODSTOCK -- Two downtown Woodstock businesses have suffered damages following a fire Thursday night.
Woodstock Fire say around 11:35 pm they received a report of a strong smoke smell in the area of 484 Dundas Street.
When crews arrived, they discovered heavy smoke on Market Street. They forced their way into Once Again upscale resale and Let's Eat Cake where they discovered the blaze in a storage room at the back of the bakery.
Firefighters battled the smoky blaze for a couple of hours with one crew member receiving minor injuries. He did not require medical treatment.
Tenants in the surrounding apartments were evacuated and given shelter in a city bus. They were allowed back into their residence shortly before 2:00 am.
The damage estimates are pegged at roughly $75,000. Fire Prevention and Investigation will be on the scene Friday to try and determine a cause and extent of damages.
Over 30 firefighters were on scene to fight the flames. Their quick response limited the amount of smoke and fire damage to the surrounding businesses and apartment housing.
Once Again upscale resale and Let's Eat Cake suffered smoke and water damage and will remain closed as Woodstock Fire continue their investigation and clean up takes place. There is no timeline of when the shops will reopen.
The storage space at the rear of Let's Eat Cake was rented by Theatre Woodstock. A number of the theatre's items were lost in the fire with the room suffering extensive damage.
