Dealing with dementia and what to do when someone wanders away or goes missing is the main subjects at an upcoming information session in Ingersoll.
INGERSOLL - Over 2000 people are living with some form of dementia in Oxford County.
With this in mind the Alzheimer Society of Oxford is hosting a free seminar for people with loved ones living with dementia. Executive Director Shelly Green tells Heart FM what they will be discussing on Thursday November 5th in Ingersoll Seniors Centre from 1:30 - 3 p.m.
"Respond to someone who they find who is missing or who has wandered, we are going to be preparing family members with information on how they can prevent their family member from wandering, but if they go missing we also have a kit through the find your way program that will provide information to emergency service personnel. It would include a picture, pertinent information that would help to find that person to locate them much more readily and to bring them home safely, so we do want to create a community that is sensitive to the needs of people with dementia and alzheimers."
Green says they will also be talking about how to deal with someone suffering from dementia, like how to talk to them and interact. The living safely in the community finding your way information session is designed for community partners, family members and really anyone who wants more information on the subject.
