The Norwich Ave bridge over the 401 is looking a little different these days.
WOODSTOCK - If you have been to the Norwich Ave bridge over the 401 lately, you may have noticed it looks a little different.
The area was completely shut down over the weekend, as crews prepped the new re-alignment.
But Christina Martin, the West Region Communications Coordinator with the Ministry of Transportation, says there more work to be done yet.
"The work also includes new traffic signals at the ramp terminal intersections including pedestrian crossing, we're going to repave a portion of the four interchange ramps, there's going to be reconstruction of a section of Patullo Avenue and we're going to replace and repair where needed on the Highway 401 barrier wall."
Crews will also install new signage along the eastbound 401 and conduct drainage work around the culverts.
The MTO decided to build the new bridge beside the old one, to minimize the traffic impact. But Martin says they will be demolishing the old bridge facing the east very soon.
"People will see the existing bridge be taken down and demolished probably around mid-September of this year, so in a few weeks. We're just not sure exactly when but more details will be released when the exact date is determined."
The $12.2 million project began in May 2017 and should wrap up this fall.
