Woodstock Fanshawe College students are sharing their winnings with Operation Sharing's Inn Out of the Cold Program.
Operation Sharing's Inn Out of the Cold program is benefiting from the generosity of local Fanshawe College students.
Starting Friday, students and faculty started collecting winning Tim Horton Roll Up the Rim tabs to donate to the homeless shelter program.
Fanshawe Program Consultant Val Currie says after hearing about a similar idea through the media, she mentioned the possibility of starting up a similar program with her students.
"A couple of students just very quietly just kind of slipped something on my desk and I didn't really pay attention to it, because like I said it was a busy class and here they started giving me their Roll Up The Rim winners and I just thought it was such a sweet gesture, totally anonymous, just a way that they could help and it just really touched me."
Currie says they started the program on Friday.
"So far we have two Tim cards, one donut and 12 coffees so great response for one day and considering our post secondary students were on Spring Break last week, that's a really great response."
"They are students and money is always tight for students but they understand that other people are going through harder times than they are and they want to contribute."
Currie says anyone who would like to contribute can do so by dropping off their donations to the Woodstock campus.
