The next face of the Woodstock Fair will be crowned Thursday night.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Agricultural Society is preparing to crown their next Fair Ambassador.
The annual competition begins at 6:00 pm Thursday evening, ahead of the fair which kicks off August 21.
Outgoing Ambassador Karen Debruyn says the main job of the Ambassador is to be the recognizable face of the fair.
"When you go to events and stuff like that especially during the fair it's really important that the Ambassador is there to present different competitions and hand out ribbons and just kind of be the recognizable face of the fair that people can see and know as being part of the fair. For me especially during the year, there was different events that I went to."
She says the night kicks off with a special dinner for the contestants, their families, judges and members of the Fair Board.
"There will be an interview for the contestants and then after the interview they will have two speeches that they have to present. One is an improve speech and the other is a written speech that they have to prepare before. After that, the judges make their decision and they decide who the next Fair Ambassador will be."
Debruyn says she really enjoyed her time in the position.
"It's been a really big eye opener in terms of how much work goes in to putting the fair on as well as kind of what goes on in Oxford County and all kinds of things that you didn't really know were happening. It's been great to learn public speaking skills and how to present yourself and gain confidence in speaking to people."
Debruyn will be competing next weekend in Toronto at the CNE to become the Ontario Agricultural Society's Fair Ambassador.
