Face Lift For Otterville Water Tower

Oxford County is investing in Otterville's aging water tower, but with a hefty price tag.

OTTERVILLE - The Otterville water tower is about to get a much needed upgrade.

Oxford County will be spending about $1.3 million to restore both the inside and the outside of the tower.

Crews are going to repaint the outside, remove the lead paint on the inside and redo the fibreglass coating on the inside. They're also going to address some safety features.

Mayor Larry Martin says even he was a little surprised when he got the bill for the work.

"I couldn't believe it was going to cost that much to fix something. But if you look at the cost of replacing it, I guess it pays to fix it."

Martin adds the money will go a long way.

"It should be good for another 30 or 40 years I would think and maybe longer. You just have to play it by year but 30 years, 40 years or maybe even 50 years; I'm not too sure but there are some stuff there that have to be done to make it last."

The work should wrap up later this year; probably in late November.

The Otterville water tower was built back in 1991, and Martin doesn't believe any work has been done since then.
