We currently have 12 active cases of COVID-19 in Woodstock. SW Public Health has investigated all of them and most of it has to do with people travelling to hot spot regions.
WOODSTOCK - Southwestern Public Health is not overly concerned with a recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the City of Woodstock.
We currently have 12 active cases of COVID-19 in the Friendly City which is high when you consider we have 16 overall for the entire region. Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says they were anticipating spikes like this during the second wave of the pandemic.
"We have seen an uptick in cases, we did expect it, we knew that as we went into the winter that the cases would start to increase, so this is expected. Sure we would like to have not had those extra cases, but the good news is those cases have all been investigated by Southwestern Public Health. We have done contact tracing, so we found everyone that these people were in touch with and all of those contacts know they have to stay home and watch out for symptoms."
Dr. Lock says this is still very much under control.
"We have successfully identified the cause or the source for most of these cases, so it's not like it is spreading around town without us knowing where people are getting it from, it is still very much under control. Some of the cases are from people travelling to other parts Province that have higher case counts. Some have been due to close contact and 1 or 2 have gotten from work. Again people tend to drive all over the place and come from the some of the higher risk areas into our workplaces and so we see cases coming up."
