Harrington will celebrate Canada's 150th birthday this weekend with an event that will take people on a trip back in time to confederation.
The community of Harrington will be celebrating Canada's 150 this weekend.
The Harrington Community Association received a $10,000 grant from the Ontario 150 Community Celebration Organization and this year the event is going to be extra special.
The Chair of the Harrington Community Association, Philip Kerr tells Heart FM what this event is all about.
"Because of Canada's 150th Birthday we thought we might try something special and a little bigger than what we would normally attempt for a small group of volunteers, which is involving the entire village in a recreation of some of the elements that might have existed around the time of confederation"
The village wide event is a great family event that will give visitors an insight into what Harrington might have been like during the time of confederation, with plenty of sites to see and things to learn.
Kerr explains some of the things we can expect to see at the event.
"We're having First Nation artefacts; we are having spinning demonstrations, quilting demonstrations. We are having children's events to take advantage of the beautiful trail that goes around the Harrington Mill Pond."
There will also be guided tours throughout, food vendors and live entertainment during the day and a ticketed concert in the evening.
The event is free to attend and tickets to the concert cost $25 for adults and $15 for youths. Children under 10 are free.
