Four special guest speakers will be sharing their stories as OWIN hosts an International Women's Day Event.
WOODSTOCK - Oxford Women In Networking, known as OWIN, is hosting a Bold for Change International Women's Event.
Ladies in Oxford County are invited to come out to the Quality Hotel and Suites on March 6th from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Christine Smith tells Heart FM they have four panelists who will be speaking at the event this year including a local officer.
"Melissa Page Kennedy is transgender and she did her transformation later on in life, so we are going to hear from her. Staff Sergeant Marcie Sheldon is going to be coming and telling us how she has been moving up the ranks in the police force as a female, and we have Mary Howe from Otterville. She has some horses that she uses to help people with depression, suicide, post traumatic stress disorder."
The other speaker at the event is Cindy Gayle who will share her story about how her daughter committed suicide as a teenager.
"My daughter at the age of 14 died by suicide in Mission British Columbia in the year 2000. In her suicide note she talked about the bullying that happened at her school and for the first time in Canadian history the bullies were actually held accountable for their actions in a court of law and so for the past 17 years I have spent my life educating people about the seriousness of bullying and that it does have consequences."
This event is being held in advance of International Women's Day on March 8th.
