Enbridge Donates Nearly 300 Carbon Monoxide Alarms to Woodstock Fire Department

The donation was made as part of Enbridge's goal to bring fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths down to zero.

WOODSTOCK - 288 Carbon Monoxide alarms have been donated to the Woodstock community.

At a special announcement this morning between the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council, the Woodstock Fire Department, and Enbridge Gas, the donation was made as part of Enbridge's goal to bring fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths down to zero.

Enbridge Gas is Canada's largest natural gas company, and their Safe Community Project Zero is a public education campaign that will provide more than 8000 alarms to residents in 50 municipalities across Ontario.

Enbridge has invested $250,000 into Project Zero this year alone. They have also provided more than 76,000 alarms to Ontario fire departments over the past decade and a half.

Fire Department Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods explains the significance of this partnership.

"It's important because alarms save lives. They give you much more time to escape in the event of a fire or a carbon monoxide incident. It is mandatory, by the fire code, you must have alarms on every level of your home, so it is a matter of life or death."

Woods added that the plan is to install the alarms for Woodstock residents over 60 who may have old, expired alarms or might be physically incapable of replacing them.
