Police say a mechanical failure sparked a vehicle fire on Highway 401 in Putnam yesterday afternoon. No one was hurt.
PUTNAM - No one was hurt after a car burst into flames on Highway 401.
According to the Middlesex OPP, the vehicle started experiencing a mechanical failure while travelling in the westbound lanes yesterday afternoon, so the driver pulled over close to Putnam Road. That's when the vehicle started smoking and caught fire.
The OPP got the call at around 3:30 p.m, A responding officer tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher, but they were unsuccessful once the car became fully engulfed in flames.
The Thames Centre Fire Department was able to get the fire under control once they arrived on scene.
