Elementary Teachers across the Province will stop performing extra curricular activities on Wednesday.
Elementary teachers across the Province will stop performing extracurricular activities on Wednesday.
The job action is a result of the ongoing negotiations between the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario and the Province. Heart FM spoke with the Associate Director of the Thames Valley District School Board Jeff Pratt who says they will have to cancel after school programs and sports teams until a deal is reached.
"It is disappointing from our perspective because this is a direct impact on our students in our elementary schools, unless something changes over the next few days with central bargaining, all extra curricular activities in our elementary schools will come to a halt, that would include things such as clubs musical groups and sporting events."
Pratt says some of the sports seasons might have to be cancelled all together if the job action lasts for awhile.
"We'll have to just assess, how long this goes for, how long these sanctions are enacted and what the willingness will be when we get back to business as normal on getting some of these sports back into place, given the timing of some of our sports seasons, it just might not be possible to get some of these sports back."
Negotiations are still ongoing between the TVDSB and the local ETFO, however a deal must be reached on the Provincial level before getting anything settled locally.
Premier Kathleen Wynne has stated that teachers have until November 1st to stop their actions or they will face sanctions.
