Hundreds of thousands of students will be home from school next week as one-day strikes by elementary teachers continue across the province. The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario issued a statement this morning to provide the promised 72 hours notice before walking out. The Thames Valley District School Board elementary teachers won't walk off the job until Wednesday at the earliest, and Friday at the latest. No date has been selected yet. One-day walkouts are already scheduled for Monday in Hamilton and Tuesday in Toronto, Durham, Peel, Greater Essex, Near North, Grand Erie, Waterloo Region and Lambton-Kent. The union says the walkouts are in protest of a controversial law that allows the government to stop strikes, freeze wages and cut benefits.
