Local PC MPP Ernie Hardeman says the latest changes to the fall economic statement has some great items for rural Ontario.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Ontario Government has unveiled it's fall economic statement.
Local PC MPP Ernie Hardeman says it has some great items for rural Ontario.
"We have worked out deals with the gas distributors to expand the gas transportation, natural gas availability to 70 more communities or 30,000 households who have natural gas hookups and weren't getting it. The other thing of course is making Ontario Open for business, we are reducing red tape and in this statement we have agreed to reduce red tape in the province by 25 percent by 2022 and that will lower the cost of doing business in Ontario. That was the number one thing when I do round tables with local business owners and farmers is that the number one problem they have is dealing with Government red tape."
Hardeman says this outlook will slash spending and oversight, unveil a new tax cut and extend the LCBO and Beer Store Hours.
The Tax credit, known as Lift means low income workers who make around $30,000 a year will no longer have to pay provincial income tax. Hardeman says this will help offset the decision to put a freeze on the minimum wage to $14 an hour.
"The last wage increase eliminated a number of minimum wage jobs and we didn't want to do that again so we are not increasing the minimum wage from $14 to $15 this year but this tax credit will go along way because minimum wage earners will all fall in this category that they have to pay no income tax at all on the income they are making so that will be a great benefit for them."
