Early Morning Apartment Fire Forces Evacuation

An early morning fire forced the evacuation of an apartment building in Woodstock. Just before 1:30 a.m. this morning, Woodstock Fire and Police responded to the apartment fire at 784 Hughson Street. Police say the top level of the 3-storey building was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. All of the residents and their pets were evacuated and placed on a city bus to keep warm as crews battled the blaze. Damage is estimated between $50,000 - $75,000. The investigation is ongoing however it is not deemed suspicious. A 35 year-old male was treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation, while one cat was taken to a local vet for treatment. Residents were allowed back into the building a few hours later. One person was displaced due to fire.
