WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police did a May Long Weekend alcohol education session with the Heart FM morning show today.
Lainger and Shelby spent the afternoon have a few drinks and then taking intoxilyzer tests to see how much alcohol it would take for them to be legally impaired and unable to drive. Heart FM morning show host Paul Laing tells Heart FM they are hoping this segment serves as an eye opener to people.
"And as I emphasis this it's not just drinking and driving, it's the lawn mower, it's getting behind the boat, it's the chainsaw, I mean guys get together, oh were going to build a deck this weekend right, that's just as hazardous as getting behind the wheel as wheel."
Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says they wanted to educate the public ahead of the Long Weekend and let them know it doesn't take much for you to get into that warn range. She says for Shelby they would have arrested her after one glass of wine if she had of been driving.
"For Shelby she showed signs of impairment, so if I see signs of impairment, the glossy eyes, slurred speech and alcohol on your breath, I can arrest you at the roadside without any testing, just showing signs of impairment."
With Shelby the results may be surprising to some as she was well over the legal limit after just 1 glass of wine and would have been arrested if she was driving. For Paul he was at the warn range after just 3 and half light beers and would have gotten a 3 day suspension.
