Angela Mostrey honoured by Parkinson's Society for her on-going support
TILLSONBURG - Due to her contributions to the Parkinson Society of Southwestern Ontario, Tillsonburg resident Angela Mostrey now has a special tree in Lake Lisgar planted in her honour.
The Society held a special ceremony Friday from the woman who is a long time supporter and has donated over $109 thousand within the last four years.
Mostrey says she knows there's a cure and wants to do all she can to help the Society get there.
"I think it's a wonderful society for us Parkinson's people. It took me quite a while to cope with this disease but I'm doing very well."
CEO of the Parkinson Society of Southwestern Ontario, Shelly Rivard says the funds will go to support the Society's four pillars.
"Our programs and services, our education, research and advocacy. We are looking right now that the number of people living with Parkinson's and the instance of that is growing consistently so obviously the need for us to have funds to run our programs and things like that. Angela sees that with us. Like I said, it's great to have her part of our vision."
Rivard says they wanted to do something extra special for Mostrey.
" Parkinson's symbol is a tulip so we decided to plant a tulip tree. We are excited to see it grow. We think with Angela, she likes to come out and be part of it, she helped to throw the dirt on and we wanted her to be part of this day so went with a small tree and we are looking forward when we are in the Tillsonburg area, or maybe the support groups will come out and watch it grow."
Parkinson's is the second most common degenerative neurological disorder after Alzheimer's.
It is estimated that more than ten thousand Southwestern Ontario residents and more than one hundred thousand Canadians live with Parkinson's.
