Lions Pool in Woodstock is being demolished, and work is scheduled to last three weeks.
WOODSTOCK - A staple landmark in Woodstock is coming down.
Lions Pool is being demolished and the work began today. Director of Parks and Recreation, Brian Connors speaks to the timeline that is in place.
"It will take approximately, I've been told, three weeks, that's weather dependent for the entire project to be finished. We're not anticipating any large disruptions for motorists."
Connors says that a lot of the work is dealing with equipment that is already on site.
"I actually drove by today and most of the forward facade was down already."
Connors says many people have voiced their displeasure, but he thinks they will now turn their attention to bettering Southside Pool and eventually a new indoor pool.
Woodstock City Council voted in favour of decommissioning Lions Pool back in July 2023, instead of spending about $2-million to renovate it for the long-term. It decided to spend $5.3-million for a new outdoor pool at Cowan Fields instead, but that project was put on the back burner in March 2024 due to financial pressures.
