Two houses were victims of break and enters Wednesday - electronics, jewellery and a firearm stolen.
BLANDFORD BLENHEIM -- Oxford OPP are investigating a couple of daytime break and enters in Blandford Blenheim Township.
One happened on Township Road 4, Wednesday June 18th some time between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm. Thieves made off with a laptop, flat screen TV, jewellery, camera and two power yard trimmers. A Winchester 22 calibre rifle was also taken from the property.
The second was yesterday between 9:00 and 10:15 am on Blandford Road. Again, a flat screen TV, laptop and jewellery were taken as well as a collection of watches and pocket knives.
Police are asking anyone with information to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
OPP are offering this list of tips to protect your property:
- Secure your vehicle & remove your valuables from your vehicle at all times.
- Target harden your home, garage and sheds by locking your doors with a quality lock set. For added security, consider installing a dead bolt locking system.
- Motion activated lighting will deter a potential thief and help alert possible witnesses.
- Be careful from obscuring sightlines from windows and doors with too much landscaping. Excessive landscaping can give a criminal the opportunity to move about your property without being noticed.
- Photograph your valuables, record the serial number and consider engraving a unique identifier. Positively identifying your property will help police hold a thief accountable.
- Make sure your home always looks lived in (e.g. newspapers/flyers picked up, snow shovelled, timed lighting systems etc.)
- Get to know your neighbours and encourage them to keep an eye out for suspicious activity around your property.
- If you have a security system, use it. Ensure that your contact list is current and up to date.
- Be a good neighbour and remember if you see something suspicious report it to police!
