A GoFundMe page for a local dancer has surpassed its $10,000 goal.
WOODSTOCK - A GoFundMe page for a local teen has received an overwhelming response from the community.
Desiree Ford was involved in a two vehicle collision in Woodstock last Friday; which left her with extensive injuries and killed her friend Lucas Downing. The accident also killed her beloved dog Mo.
A GoFundMe page for the Ford family originally set out to raise $10,000; but it surpassed that goal with $14,500 reported as of this morning.
Jennifer Paquette is a friend of the Ford family who was asked to submit a statement on their behalf;
"The response from the community is overwhelming. We can't wait to share all the love and support with Desiree when she wakes up." - Betty Ford, Desiree Ford's Mother.
Betty wants to express her and her family's gratitude for all of those who have taken the time to offer their help at such a difficult time. She is also thankful for all of the initiatives taken in support of Desiree's recovery.
Betty would also like to acknowledge Dez's second home, Artistic Movement Dance Studio and its Artistic Director Christina Cannella, whose love and support is just as strong and important as it has been for half of Desiree's life. Desiree is a teacher at the studio and the staff and students there are family.
Betty and her family appreciate the love, the prayers, the support both emotionally and financially, and they ask the community to continue to visualize Desiree dancing again.
They also ask that the family's privacy be respected as Desiree continues to heal, and that the community keeps the Downing family in their thoughts and prayers.
