Motorists are being reminded to slow down in school zones and to watch out for the crossing guards as they work to get our kids to school safely starting on Monday September 14th.
WOODSTOCK - Kids head back to class next week in Oxford County and crossing guards will be there to help sure everyone arrives safely.
Woodstock City Clerk Amy Humphries says all of the guards will be out in the same spots this year in the city.
"Our crossing guards are an important piece in helping kids get to school safely and we work closely with the other city departments and the schools to make sure we have the crossing guards in the right spots and at the right times, so they are there when there kids need them the most."
Humphries says the crossing guards will look a little different this year.
"We have asked the guards to wear masks when they are crossing the children, just because we can't always guarantee that 6 foot separation from the kids and we are also wanting the guards in playing a role in setting an example for wearing the masks. The other piece that will be a little bit different is the guards will have pylons with them at each location, that they will be able to set at the sidewalk to mark a place for the children where they can wait to cross, just to help to keep that distance from the guards as well."
Humphries says they will have guards at all the regular spots this year.
"So all the guards will be out in all the same spots as they have been in previous years and the kids for the most part will see familiar faces in our returning guards and they will be at all the same locations and mostly the same faces."
