People lost thousands of dollars in two separate cases of the Canada Revenue Agency Scam last week. One occurred in Oxford County and the other in Norfolk County.
The tax deadline is on Monday May 2nd and scammers are really ramping up their efforts to try and dupe people out of their hard earned money.
OPP in Perth, Norfolk and Oxford have gotten several complaints from residents who are getting calls from the so called Canada Revenue Agency scam. In two cases last week people lost thousands of dollars in Oxford and Norfolk.
Recently a retired officer in Perth County took one of the calls from the scammers and he was surprised by how sophisticated the scam has gotten.
The caller ID said it was the Canada Revenue Agency. The officer knew it was a scam and played along and then received a follow up call from someone pretending to be a police officer. Again the caller ID said OPP office and the man even provided a badge number.
Police are warning the public, if you get a call like this to simply hang up and do not give these people your personal information or money.
