Oxford County's 2023 financial statements include a surplus of $1.76 million from the operating budget.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council reviewed financial statements during their latest meeting.
This is done every year to look at where every tax dollar went. Warden, Marcus Ryan says an unbias group looks over the financials.
"I do think it is important for residents to know that we have a third-party accounting firm, so it's not Oxford County staff that comes in once a year and audits our financial statement."
During the latest meeting, it was also mentioned there was a surplus of $1.76 million from the 2023 operating budget. Warden Ryan explains what Council tries to do every year.
"We try to always aim to spend every dollar. If we have taxed somebody for that project, we should spend that money."
If there is a surplus, Warden Ryan says there are policies in place that would let council put the extra money into projects that fall into the same category they were originally meant for. He adds the audit document is available online here and residents can view it and come up with their own judgements of how they think their tax dollars were spent.
