A report from the provincial government shows Oxford County’s emergency response times are consistent with other municipalities.
OXFORD - The county's proposed response time performance plan for 2023 will remain the same.
A report from the provincial government shows Oxford County’s emergency response times are consistent with other municipalities.
Warden Larry Martin shares what those response times are.
"If you're in the urban area, from the time the call goes out, there should be an ambulance at your door in eight minutes time. Unfortunately though in the rural areas, because of distance, you're looking at about a 10-minute wait, and a lot can happen in those two minutes."
In 2021, Paramedic Services responded to 17,250 emergency calls for service, which is an increase of 15.4% from the previous year. Martin said the current plan has the capability of managing the uptick in emergency calls, however Council is always looking for ways to improve.
"Anytime there's efficiency's or ways that we can improve and develop our service, by all means, we'll be looking into it."
The decision to not make changes to the plan took place at this week's County Council meeting.
