The My Second Unit program will now offer up to $30,000 to help residents add secondary rental units to their properties.
OXFORD COUNTY - Changes are coming the Oxford County's My Second Unit program.
Introduced in 2022, My Second Unit helps homeowners finance a secondary unit in their home with an interest-free, forgivable loan.
Warden Marcus Ryan gave a rundown of what the program's purpose is and how it benefits residents.
"The intention of the My Second Unit program is to encourage people to put second units in their property. So we implemented a policy to provide loans."
Currently, the county offers up to $15,000 to homeowners to add a rental unit to their residences. With the increases that amount will rise to $30,000 to accommodate renovations.
Other changes include allowing units to exist in accessory structures like garages and accepting family members to be tenants.
