WOODSTOCK - Say goodbye to the old Children's Aid building located at 92 Light Street in Woodstock
Oxford County Council approved the demolition of the building last night. Warden Marcus Ryan says it has been empty for a while now and it's deteriorating.
"On the outside, the building looks like it's in good shape. But I have toured it and on the inside, it is absolutely not in good shape. The best thing we can do right now is stop throwing money into it, demolish it, and County Council will decide what to do with the property at a future date."
The previous County Council considered demolishing it, but Ryan says they decided to see if anyone would be interested in buying, renting, or leasing it first.
"Since then many organizations and individuals have been through the building and none have decided that they want to use it. So the building has been largely empty and it has deteriorated to the point where staff recommended that it should be demolished because it's just costing us money to maintain a building every year that essentially nobody wants to use."
The County will be launching a tender process for the demolition project.
