Recently named Chair of the Woodstock Police Service Board Shawn Shapton says there are big things in store for 2016
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service Board has elected a familiar face to serve as the Board's Chair.
Councillor Shawn Shapton was elected at the January 11th monthly meeting. Mary Ann Silverthorn was elected as the Vice Chair for the current year.
Shapton says he is honoured to serve as the chair on the police board.
"I can't stress how fantastic this board is working together and one thing I look forward to is creating a stronger relationship with this board and with our senior officers to promote this board and the great work they do in the community. Having such a strong senior management at the police station with the Chief, our deputy, and the new Inspector - it's certainly been a great opportunity for me to learn about it but more importantly we are able to share knowledge not just from the police officers' standpoint but from the community's standpoint as well."
Shapton says the board will face a lot of challenges in the new year after they finalize the 2016 policing budget.
"It's a big year for the Woodstock Police Service; we are about to begin the addition of the building and that will be a fantastic and a welcomed opportunity to bring everyone together under one roof."
Chief Bill Renton congratulates and welcomes Mr. Shapton on his appointment as Board Chair. Shawn is a very committed and integral part of the Board. He would also like to thank Ms. Silverthorn for her diligence as Board Chair.
Chief Renton says "We have an extremely dedicated Police Service Board, with the other members being Nancy O'Grady, Sandra Carnegie, and Mayor Trevor Birtch. They are all forward thinking individuals who work collectively for the betterment of the service and community we serve".
