Curator Sheila Perry Looking for an Expansion
Woodstock's new Art Gallery Curator is looking to make some bold moves after just two months on the job.
Sheila Perry came to council Thursday night with a list of recommendations to help improve the number of visitors coming into the space, recommendations that carried a $380,000-630,000 price tag.
Perry said she knew it would be an uphill battle for additional funding. "Nobody likes to spend more money on anything however I think council understands that if you've already put in so much investment, if you want to get the maximum return from it some times you just need to finish the little things off. What's been done here is so great already, we just need a little bit more."
Perry says the upgrades would help to lower operating costs and get more value out of the investment made by the city and help to leverage that investment.
Perry already has the definite support of Councillor Ron Fraser who said he was behind her 100 percent.
Paul Plant , whom many believed was against the gallery, asked his fellow councillors to give serious consideration to the motion.
Councillor Deb Tate expressed concerns over the cost of the upgrades saying council spent five million dollars on renovations with Perry asking for more money just two years later.
The recommendations have been put over to the 2014 budget deliberations.
