Philp Properties Ltd. will have to dish out over $10,000 for not correcting fire code violations.
WOODSTOCK - A corporation in Woodstock has been charged by the Fire Department with failing to comply with an Inspection Order.
Philp Properties Ltd. has been issued a fine of $8,750 plus court costs and victim fine surcharge totalling $10,937. The fine was for a commercial plaza building owned by Philp Properties at 988-990 Dundas Street.
According to the Fire Department the charge relates to an inspection order issued after a fire inspection performed by the prevention division in March of 2014. The March inspection revealed numerous fire code violations. The company was given plenty of time to correct the violations, however they still had five violations in 2016 which lead to the big fine.
"Failing to comply with an inspection order can result in a fine of up to $20,000 for every day building owner is not compliant," said Fire Chief Scott Tegler.
Woodstock Fire Department reminds all building owners that it is their responsibility to comply with the Ontario Fire Code on an ongoing basis and, in the event Inspection Order is served, to remedy violations noted. Business and property owners, as well as citizens of Woodstock, are encouraged to contact the Woodstock Fire Department Fire Prevention Division to discuss Fire Code requirements if they have any questions or concerns.
