WOODSTOCK - Heart FM's 3rd Annual Give Thanks to Your Hospital Radio-thon brought in an amazing $27,216 dollars yesterday.
All of the money raised will go towards purchasing new equipment for the maternal child unit. Senior Development Officer with the Hospital Foundation Jocelyn Jenner says they are extremely grateful for all of the donations.
"We want to thank everybody so much for stepping up and making a donation to our maternal child department. We had a lot of support from the community and appreciative to everybody who made a donation yesterday."
Jenner explains what the money will be used for.
"It is going to support all of our moms and babies who come into the unit and use our services, so we are going to be purchasing some different pieces of equipment that are needed for that unit. I think last year we had about 1,000 babies born at the Woodstock Hospital and this year, we are projecting to have just over 1,000 babies born in Woodstock.
Jenner notes they offer a lot of services for mothers and expecting mothers at the Woodstock Hospital.
"We have a lot of mothers coming and delivering their babies here, so they are receiving that care but we also have lactation consultants who are working with moms and babies to make sure they are nursing properly, which is really important."
Yesterday the airwaves of Heart FM were filled with emotional testimonials from mothers and expecting mothers who have been through the maternal child care unit. We also had a lot of local dignitaries stop by and a number of local businesses stepped with donations.
The Hospital Foundation had set a goal of $40,000 and are still accepting donations online today here.
