The cost to finish work in the Commerce Way business park is over budget...way over. City Council approved taking $580,000 out of reserve funds to finalize work in the industrial park that will help make way for the coming Sysco Distribution Warehouse. City Engineer Harold DeHaan explains what has to be done; "It's finishing off a lot of the work that was still left over from phase two like street lighting and some utilities. So after this is done, except for a final course of asphalt, all the work in phase two of Commerce Way should be complete." The work also includes removing a road to make way for the coming Sysco Plant. Council had already banked $940,000 for the project, and the lowest bid game in at 1.4-million. DeHaan says there's really not much the city can do, but pay for the work. "Our in-house estimate was quite a bit lower than that, our consultants estimate was quite a bit lower. But the cold hard facts are the bids are the bids so there's nothing you can do to change it."
