Gather your co-workers, neighbours, family or friends and support the Alzheimer Society over a cup of coffee.
OXFORD COUNTY -- It's a chance to socialize while raising funds for a great cause.
On Thursday, September 18th, the national fundraiser in support of the Alzheimer Society, Coffee Break kicks off.
Executive Director in Oxford County, Shelley Green says locally they encourage people to host Coffee Breaks any time of the year but there's added incentive for those who host now. "We do have a draw and that's for any host will be submitted into a draw for a package sponsored by Tim Hortons and valued at $150; so for hosts to qualify for that they need to have their money submitted to our office by December 1st (2014) and Tim Hortons is our local sponsor here which they've been so generous with their support over many years with Coffee Break."
As Green points out, a Coffee Break can be hosted any way you like - at work or in your home - and you be can as creative as you'd like. "Coffee Breaks can also be a lot of fun and can be as much work as you choose them to be. We just had a lady that did a Mad Hatter Tea, this is the first time she's been involved and she raised just over $700 and they had a blast. Or you can dress up for Halloween and have a themed Halloween Coffee Break, you can do a games night or you can invite your neighbours and friends and family into your home and have a Coffee Break that way."
Green says in the past they've had a variety of groups and organizations participate such as book clubs and church groups. "They can be included into your office so when you're having a a coffee break at the office you can just let people know you're collecting donations for the Alzheimer Society of Oxford."
There are host kits available at the office located at 575 Peel Street in Woodstock -- in the kits are posters, donation box, tax receipt forms as well as coffee supplied from Tim Hortons and a Tim's gift card for the host.
Green also highlighted their "Donate A Buck - Sign A Cup" campaign they are holding for local businesses. They have paper coffee cup cutouts that businesses can sell at their registers for a $1; customers can buy the cup and put their name on it which are displayed in participating locations to show their support for the Alzheimer Society of Oxford.
