The hot topic of methadone clinics hits the floor of Woodstock City Council tonight. A lengthy report on the city's options in terms of a control by-law on new clinics is being tabled. However, the recommendation being made, is for the city to put off drafting a by-law to control where these clinics set up. Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski says they want to see what is working and what is not in other communities. "Part of the recommendation is to extend the interim control by-law for a year, which restricts any more methadone clinics from coming to Woodstock for another year. But we're sitting back to observe what other communities do, because we anticipate any by-law that we do, there's a good chance it will be challenged." Downtown business owners in the city have complained about loitering and drug dealing infront of the current "Clinic 461." However, Clinic 461 will be grand fathered into any new by-law the city adopts, and will not be subject to any new rules the city places on these establishments.
