City Hall this week has issued a $42.9-million building permit. That's the main construction permit for the Sysco distribution warehouse. Once you factor in previous permits for structural steel ($4,500,000) and foundations ($5,269,000) the total value of construction is $52,690,000. The issuing of the final, and main building permit will also mark the transaction for the land sale. The city will collect $2.7-million for the 57-acres of industrial land. City Development Commissioner Len Magyar says it's going to be a massive building. "All the permits have now been issued, so the total facility will be about 400-thousand square feet in size. About 70-thousand of that will be office and mezzanine area. So there will be a significant amount of white-collar employment at the facility." Sysco will employ somewhere between 250-350 people in Woodstock. With the issuing of the final permit, Magyar expects construction will ramp up even more at the site in the Commerce Way Business Park, fronting Highway 401. "They're hoping to be operational in January 2014. So throughout the course of the spring and summer there will be continued construction activity on the site." Sysco is a global leader in selling, marketing and distributing food products. In photos below: Left - An aerial view of the land Sysco is building on.
