City Council To Approve Paratransit Dispatch Program

Changes to Woodstock Paratransit program continues. The latest move to be approved by City Council Thursday night will see the local branch of the Canadian Red Cross approved as the central dispatch services for paratransit. Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski says it's a move that will help make a more efficient use of the service; "we were the only municipality that didn't have a dispatch service. And so as a result, our ridership numbers were significantly higher than other communities. We decided that a dispatch service was required; it helps consolidate rides". Sobeski says despite a cost of nearly $80,000 a year for the dispatch service, he believes the city will save money in the long run. The new dispatch service will compliment two new paratransit buses the city has ordered. They're expected to arrive in the next couple of months.
