City Council Members Unhappy on McClintic Transfer

No one is pleased to hear the decision to keep Terri-Lynne McClintic in an Aboriginal Healing Lodge.

WOODSTOCK- Members of Woodstock City Council aren't happy over the decision to transfer Terri-Lynne McClintic an Aboriginal Healing Lodge.

City councilman Sandra Talbot previously brought this motion to town council on October 3rd and Talbot and the rest of city council voiced their anger during a town council meeting on Thursday night.

Since then, she says everyone has been very supportive.

"People have been emailing me, asking for support, 'what can we do? What can we do to help?' I've had retired correctional officers get in touch with me so everyone is feeling the same way, except our federal government."

Support rallies were held over the weekend, including one in Woodstock that saw a couple hundred people gather outside of the courthouse on Saturday.

Talbot explains why she brought this motion forward. 

"So what I am looking for is that support to go through to the Prime Minister and he'll see that it is not just the city of Woodstock, it's all of Canada that is requesting that this be reversed."

The motion that was approved is looking to the federal government to reverse this decision, calling on the Prime Minister, Oxford MP Dave MacKenzie, Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the rest of Ontario municipalities.
