Circles Oxford County is still offering services during the pandemic with virtual Zoom meetings.
OXFORD COUNTY - The pandemic hasn't stopped Circles Oxford County from trying to lift people out of poverty.
The program partners people working hard to get out of poverty, known as leaders and pairs them with community allies.
Human Services Manager with Oxford County Lynda Bartlett says they have shifted gears a few times during the pandemic.
"We had to pivot our program from the weekly in person family style meals that we did at South Gate Centre to everything being done virtually over Zoom."
They recently supplied the leaders with refurbished lap tops so they can continue to attend meetings. They also have been doing drop offs to the families.
"Our circles coach, who is a staff member with the Human Services department, she will do drop off to our families, things like school supplies, at Easter we dropped off a dozen eggs and some dying kits, so the kids good dye easter eggs. Each week she tries to get out and touch base with the family in the driveway, as well as a phone. Our leaders and allies connect all the time, when they need support they reach out and connect."
Circles of Oxford County currently has 11 leaders and 15 allies. With those 11 leaders, that includes 19 children. They are always looking for more community allies to join their circle. Bartlett says you can also support in other ways.
"We are always looking for monetary donations to continue to support our families. We were able to get a donation of refurbished I-Pads and it allowed everyone to stay connected through zoom with those weekly sessions."
