Want to be a secret shopper? Watch out for a new scam.
Beware an on-line secret shopper job scam.
A Perth County woman answered an ad in Kijiji, and completed an on-line application around Christmas time.
The woman was sent a $4000 cheque from a New Hamburg company with instructions to cash it and wire two $1000 amounts to people in New York.
Luckily, the bank caught onto the scam. The cheque was flagged and and a hold was placed on it.
OPP say it turns out someone issued 40 phony cheques using the name of a valid business in New Hamburg.
The Waterloo Regional Police are now investigating.
Police say the lesson to be learned is to use common sense when looking for employment. If the job seems too good to be true, it probably is.
