Major changes at the OLG could mean changes with the Woodstock Slots. Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski spoke with an official yesterday with the Finance Ministry, about some of the changes coming down. The province is looking to privatise the operations of their slot machines and casinos, but Mayor Pat Sobeski expects that will be the extent of the changes for Woodstock's slots. "I think they are a success story for the lottery corporation. They started with 100 units here, they're up to 175 now. I think regardless of what happens with horse racing, that the slot venue will continue to operate." Sobeski is referring to plans of the province to claw back the portion of the slot proceeds that goes to horse racing in Ontario. The city also collects a portion of the slot revenues that Sobeski is hoping goes untouched by the province, but has cautioned council the province could come after that money as well. Sobeski says the irony is, $350,000 of that money goes to the Woodstock Hospital, as the province may look to that money to find additional funding for hospitals and education.
