Buses in the City of Woodstock will start running later this summer and some routes have been tweaked to save time.
WOODSTOCK - Some big changes are coming to Woodstock's transit system.
The city will be purchasing a new bus and it is expected to be officially added to the fleet in the next 11 to 12 months. The new bus will cost about $484,000 and that money will come out of federal gas tax funds. As of right now the city has 10 buses in its fleet.
City Engineer Harold deHaan says the new bus will help accommodate some of the changes coming to the transit system this summer.
"We're increasing the hours basically almost 40% over what we have right now. There's that much more chance of a break down and everything, so we wanted to increase how many busses we have in reserve, in case something breaks down and we can get another bus on the road."
As of August 2nd of this year the buses will run until 10:30 p.m., the price to ride the bus will increase, and there will be some minor changes to some of the routes.
Routes 5 and 6 were experiencing some timing issues, so some of the loops in those routes are being taken out in order to fix that. deHaan tells us more details of about these route changes.
"We won't be going through Walmart anymore, which will save some time. The 6 bus won't go pass the Community Complex anymore, it will be going down Sales Drive instead, but route 5 still goes past the complex."
