Changes are Coming for United Way Oxford

The organization is changing to an open funding model for 2016

OXFORD COUNTY - Changes are in the works for the United Way of Oxford County.

Starting next year they will be changing to an open funding model. This means they will accept applications from any not for profit organization and will be developing specific strategies. Executive Director Kelly Gilson tells Heart FM under the new model any not for profit organization can apply for funding for specific strategies. 

"We have been working with local experts to develop specific investment strategies that we would like to focus our energies on, our resources and organizations will be welcome to apply and then we will continue to have a review process run by local volunteers."

Historically the United Way has two pools of funding where the majority of the money coming in will go towards member agencies. Gilson tells Heart FM the model will allow to develop new funding strategies and help more local not for profits.

"And so this new shift with this changed investment framework and new strategies, will allow us to look at all of those dollars together to make much more focused investments and to have more funding available to work with."

Gilson says they will implement the change next year as they get set for another fundraising campaign this fall. The United Way will be announcing their goal for this year in a couple of weeks.
