WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock held a ceremony in Roth Park this morning to thank the Leslie Family.
The family recieved official recognition for their contributions to the municipality and in particular the Pittock Lake recreation area. A donation from the Leslie family helped to re-open the dam walkway over the Gordon Pittock Reservoir with the installation of safety barriers. The City is also planning to install a lighting system in 2021.
The endowment was additionally utilized by the Woodstock parks department to pave the Roth Park roadway and parking lot, and to construct in the near future fully accessible bathrooms on the south shore of Pittock in Roth Park.
With the Leslie Family, Mayor Trevor Birtch was present for a ribbon cutting ceremony, along with members of council, the city parks department, and Ian Wilcox – the GM of the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority.
The Pittock Dam opened in 1967 with its main purpose of flood control, but since then has expanded greatly to include the Pittock Park Conservation Area and its campground, a large free day-use park on both shores, and many kilometres of trails.
