CAW Threatens Strike with GM

The Canadian Auto Workers union says it's ready to set a strike deadline as early as this afternoon against GM if a deal isn't reached soon. The union had previously warned that if at any point progress seriously stalls, the union is in legal position to strike. It will give 24 hours notice before a work stoppage. After reaching a tentative agreement with Ford earlier this week, the CAW turned to getting similar deals at both Chrysler and General Motors. Earlier today, the union said it appears to be making gradual progress in its contract negotiations with Chrysler. The CAW says the company seems to be more willing than it was to reach an agreement. Until Thursday, the union had suggested it was making more headway with General Motors than with Chrysler. But the union now says it's growing increasingly frustrated that a deal has not yet been reached.
