The Thistle Theatre will bring the story of Bob Hayward and Miss Supertest III to life on stage in March 2024.
EMBRO - The story of a local legend will be brought to life on the Thistle Theatre stage.
Embro's very own Bob Hayward was a world-champion unlimited speedboat racer from 1959 to 1961. If the name sounds familiar, he was also the great-uncle for former Heart FM personality Cody Hayward.
His boat was named Miss Supertest III and it was equipped with an aviation engine, so it could go 175 miles per hour on the water. Bill Butt, the writer of the play, remembers seeing the boat in action when he was young.
"I was nine-years-old watching from the shore of the Detroit River with my Dad and my brother. For a kid, it was fascinating and there were thousands of people lining the bank of the Detroit River on both sides!"
Adam Corrigan Holowitz will be directing the play. He says the auditions will be taking place at Knox United Church in Embro on Wendesday October 25th and Saturday October 28th.
"We're looking for a cast from anywhere between 14 actors, we could go to 25 if a lot of people come out or we could go higher than that! We're looking for a community to tell this story."
He says on-stage experience is not required and the actors will have to sing on stage.
The play will make its debut in March 2024 and those who are interested in auditioning can reach out to the Thistle Theatre for more information.
Bill Butt and Adam Corrigan Holowitz stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday October 10th. You can listen to the full interview below.
