Carbon Monoxide Awareness In Woodstock

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week starts today and the Woodstock Fire Department wants everyone to make sure they have a carbon monoxide detector installed.

WOODSTOCK - Carbon Monoxide Safety Week is back and the Woodstock Fire Department will be out in our community to spread awareness.

November 1st to 7th are the designated Carbon Monoxide Week days. The main focus of the week is to make sure families in Woodstock have working alarms and take precautions to keep their families safe. But it is also in honour of the Hawkins Family who passed away due to Carbon Monoxide entering their home. Lisa Woods Public Information Coordinator has more on the week.

"The Hawkins Family accident is one we want to make sure doesn't happen again. So we want to honour them by making sure people are protected in this community, that they loved and they lived in. And we want to make it clear that if you don't have an alarm then you don't know if there's carbon monoxide in your home."

Woods also said they were bringing back the Pizza Program for another year.

"The Pizza Program everyone loved, so we will be out November, 1st to 7th. We will pick a random pizza company and a random house and if they have working carbon monoxide detectors then we will pay for their pizza. And if not then we will make sure they get one."

Woodstock Fire Department will also be visiting local beer liquor stores, grocery stores and restaurants in the Friendly City.
