Oxford County municipalities to host candidate information session. Must RSVP by August 6th.
WOODSTOCK- Oxford County Council Chamber will be the location of the upcoming candidate information session.
Oxford County and 8 municipalities have teamed up to inform new and returning election candidates about changes that have been made. The session will take place August 13th in the Oxford County Administration Building (21 Reeve Street, Woodstock) at 7 p.m.
"It actually started with all the area clerks, we realized that municipal elections were becoming difficult to manage and we wanted to ensure that candidates got the proper information," said Ingersoll Town Clerk Michael Graves.
"The rules have changed significantly over the last couple of elections and we want to make sure that candidates understand what their priorities are and we thought that there would be a benefit in educating them all together..."
Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing will make a presentation. And groups will be broken up later in the session for each municipality to learn specific information about their township. The Municipal Elections Act, 1996 will be discussed in addition to other aspects to being apart of council.
"We're going to hear some information about the voter's list from the MPAC representatives, were also going to get some explainations of the rules and responsibilities, as well as an explaination of some of the forms they need to complete especially the financial ones."
Participants are asked to register by August 6th by calling Ingersoll Town Clerk Michael Graves at 519-485-0120 or by e-mailing mgraves@ingersoll.ca or your local clerk.
