Police are warning the public about making big purchases at the door.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning the public about a door to door salesmen in the area.
Police were contacted after someone bought a large item from the sales person. The person agreed to the price and received the produce, however their financial institution was wary of the price and told the person to contact police because they thought it might be a scam. After an investigation was complete it was deemed the situation was not fraudulent in nature.
Police were concerned for the citizen as they had paid a very large sum of money for the product. The citizen's next move is to contact the Ministry of Consumer Services.
Woodstock Police want to remind the public to;
" Work with Local Businesses: make sure a contractor has proper identification that tells you a company is legitimate. Check out businesses at BBB.org.
" Check References: Get references from several past customers.
" Make sure it's legal: Confirm that any business being considered for hire is licenced and registered to work in your area. Request proof of current insurance certificates from a contractor's insurance company.
" Get it in writing: Always be sure to get a written contract with a price, materials and timeline. The more detail, the better.
" Watch for "red flags": Say no to cash only deals, high pressure sales tactics and onsite inspections.
