As school is quickly approaching, it's time for new students to get familiar with the big yellow bus.
WOODSTOCK - It's a chance to take the first school bus ride with your little one.
Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services is offering the fourth annual bus safety day on Saturday and General Manager Maureen Cosyn Heath says it's a way to get both parents and children familiar with the big yellow bus.
"They come. They go on a bus ride. They learn about school bus safety. They learn about proper boarding and deboarding techniques, how to behave on the bus, where to put their backpacks and then they get to go for a little ride around the city with a bus driver and their families."
"We find that it really helps the parents and the little ones get over their first day jitters in advance. It is also a really good opportunity for parents and kids to learn school bus safety rules with lots of time to talk about it at the dinner time before back to school."
Each student will receive a certificate and other goodies for taking in the day.
Heath says it's a free day and no registration is required.
"We accept donations of new school supplies and we make sure they get to Supplies for Students through the Thames Valley Education Foundation and if people don't want to shop in advance, that's okay too. We take cash donations at the event and then our staff go out and do the back to school shopping for you."
The Oxford County event runs from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday at St Mary's Catholic High School in Woodstock
